Insurance

Coaches

Coaching can be covered as a consultation. Insurance companies look at the credentials of who is delivering the service. Once the client picks a coach, then they can take the coach/therapist’s credentials to determine coverage. We used to be able to almost guarantee that a given service is covered, but there are different insurance companies with different policies with various coverages that we cannot generalize a clear response for the client.  In order of likelihood of coverage:

Coaching given by:

  • A psychologist or psychotherapist (QC)
  • A psychologist or MSW (ON, BC, AB)
  • An intern supervised by the above if their insurance accepts co-signed receipts
  • CCC if their insurance covers this
  • Regular Coach with none of the above.

Essentially, they really need to check with their insurance, unfortunately.

Therapist

**Please note that all of our interns are supervised by a psychologist in Quebec who is a member of the Order of Psychologists and signs their receipts. Therefore, insurance companies process sessions with our interns as if they are being the supervisor (who is a psychologist). To clarify, this caller would have been able to see any of our interns.

Please advise individual to connect with their insurance provider and inquire what their coverage is for Psychotherapy.

" To get the most accurate information please follow up with your Insurance company and ask what is covered under the plan for Psychotherapy services. Please note - full payment is required at the end of the session and a receipt will be provided for insurance purposes. "

If they are persistent just say unfortunately I am unable to provide such information as coverages vary.

If person is looking for address for their claim please refer them to their insurance receipt (sent by the therapist at the end of each session) for the correct address that they can use for insurance purposes. These addresses vary based on the intern/supervisor.

Specific scenario - "Hi, I am a student with Sunlife insurance provided by my school. Their website directed me to this service. I have found a therapist I am interested in working with but they are listed as a psychotherapist and my plan says it'll cover "psychologist, or clinical counsellor, or have a Master’s degree in Social Work", does a registered psychotherapist fall under one of these categories?" RESPONSE  “A psychotherapist is a different title from what is listed in your insurance policy. Please contact your insurance company directly to inquire about your specific coverage.”

Encourage booking as we have a 24-hour cancellation policy that can be used if they find out that their insurance will not accept this type of professional.
