Caller says the reason for consultation is something not on our list, for example insomnia. Follow up with a question relating to how the insomnia is affecting them (work, relationships, negative or sad feelings) to get them to disclose additional information.
If the person mentions ‘self harm’ as a reason for consultation: Please check off anxiety and depression in the list of reasons. Remember, if the person says that they are going to harm themselves please encourage them to go to the nearest hospital or for them to call 911. If we have to do a three way, then we do a three way.
